Ascend Online School is overseen by a committed and experienced Board of Directors, composed of leaders from education, government, and business sectors. The Board provides critical governance, ensures strategic alignment, and upholds the school’s mission of helping students get back on track academically.

Ascend Online School goal by the end of the 2025-2026 school year is to be at full capacity to service students in multiple different school districts across south Florida.

Board Members

Michael D. Armstrong | Board Chairman
Michael Armstrong brings over 30 years of experience in public service and nonprofit leadership. He previously served as Director of Government Affairs for a state education agency and spent a decade managing youth development programs. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Michael now runs a civic consulting firm and remains active in policy advisory roles related to education reform and digital equity.

Dr. Richard Langston | Vice Chair
Dr. Langston is a retired school superintendent with more than 35 years in K–12 education. He holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership and is recognized for his work in turning around underperforming schools. He now mentors aspiring school leaders and contributes to statewide education policy panels focused on equity and innovation in virtual learning.

Karen Bautista | Board Member
Karen Bautista is a former small business owner turned community advocate for education access. She has served on multiple school advisory committees and volunteers with organizations supporting underserved students. Karen brings a parent’s perspective and a deep commitment to ensuring every child has a chance to succeed, regardless of their background.

Terrence “Terry” Fields | Board Member
Terry Fields is a former state legislator and workforce development leader with a long history of championing youth programs and job readiness initiatives. He currently directs a regional nonprofit focused on career pathways for at-risk youth. His policy expertise and passion for community impact make him a valuable voice on the Board.

Lisa M. Tran | Board Member
Lisa Tran is a senior executive in the healthcare technology sector with over 20 years of experience in team leadership and operational strategy. As a longtime advocate for education and digital learning, she has partnered with school districts on technology integration projects and supports STEM opportunities for underrepresented students.
